Fernando Buarque

FERNANDO BUARQUE DE LIMA NETO is Brazilian, with a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of London (2002), Diploma from Imperial College London-DIC, in Artificial Neural Networks (2002), Master’s in Computer Science from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1998) and graduation in Computer Science from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (1990). He read Philosophy of Science and Neurosciences at Imperial College London, and studied a year of Lato Sensu in Administration at the School of Administration of the University of Pernambuco-UPE. In 2021 he was appointed to the Board of the Institute for intelligent Systems (IIS) at the University of Johannesburg and Chair of the IEEE CIS Task-Force LACCI. In 2020 he was elected permanent member of the Pernambuco Academy of Sciences-APC. In 2019 he visited Eng. Electrical and Computing from the University of Florida, as a CAPES-PVE Senior Scholar. In 2018 he was appointed for five years to the Higher Council of FACEPE, and appointed for two years, Research Ambassador of the University of Münster-WWU. In 2014-15 he carried out a senior post-doctoral internship at the European Center for Information Systems-WWU. He is a Full Professor / Associate Professor at UPE at the centenary Escola Politécnica de Pernambuco-POLI, and a permanent member of the Doctoral Program in Eng. of Computing. He has four active international academic positions: (i) Honorary Professor at CEMPS at the University of Exeter/UK, (ii) VIP (‘Visiting Int. Eng. Electrical and Computing at Texas A&M University/USA, and (iv) Visiting Professor at Eng. Electrical at the University of Johannesburg. Professor Buarque is Alexander von Humbold Fellow/Germany, Senior Member of the IEEE/USA, and was a PQ Fellow at CNPQ (2010-2018).
